The “Waltz State Hospital” began in the 1890’s as farmland, and was expanded as a state mental institution in the 1930’s with many buildings being added for patient housing, and medical care. At the hospital’s peak, the campus encompassed nearly 200 acres of land and over 80 buildings that served more than 5,000 patients. Overtime, like the majority of state mental institutions, the hospital began to see a decline in patients as psychotropic drugs such as thorazine came into play. In the 1990’s many of the buildings closed down and were left abandoned to deteriorate as the hospital was downsizing in patients. To this day, many of the buildings on campus remain active as for its original purpose, while many other buildings are left abandoned, catching the eye of interested onlookers looking to explore these dilapidated buildings. The only life around these abandoned buildings now are from trespassers, and police who regularly make rounds looking for trouble.

note: I gave this album an alias name to protect the property from any vandalism, and out of respect for the patients and staff who still live/ work on the grounds.
