The English Power Station in New Haven, Connecticut was a coal-run power plant that was commissioned in 1924 and it powered much of New Haven, and neighboring neighborhoods. After many years of running successfully, it was found that the plant was causing serious pollution, with the extreme amounts of asbestos, PCB’s, which would wash up ashore to nearby areas. In 1992, the English Power Station shut down, and was left abandoned after the operator of the plant found that it was too costly to keep the furnaces running. As of now, the power plant has been sitting abandoned since its closure, decaying, and attracting scrappers and vandals. The owner of the plant scrapped and began demolishing the turbine hall, however, the work still hasn't been complete, and the plant continues to sit, falling apart with time. More recently, the owners have set up cameras all around the property to keep watch of trespassers looking to explore the former power plant, or scrappers looking to make some extra money. Despite this, there are still no current plans for this historic power plant, however it will likely be demolished in the next decade.
