The “Verno Insane Hospital” opened in the early 1900’s in the Deep South of the United States. Prior to the hospital’s opening, the site was home to an army arsenal which was used during the war of 1812 however, and the original barracks were reused for the new State-run mental institution which took the property over. Many new buildings were built on the property to fulfill the needs of the state in taking on a large number of patients, relieving overcrowding at other local mental institutions. The hospital was segregated from the beginning under the name of the “Asylum for the Colored Insane,” and only African-American patients were admitted to the facility until it was desegregated in the late 1960’s by court order, and the name changed. Over the course of the hospital’s life, many patients were treated for mental illness, however by the 1980’s and 1990’s, a huge decline in mental health facilities took place due to the rise of psychotropic drugs such as thorazine. Around that time, the hospital was downsizing tremendously, and a majority of the buildings were closing down, and being left to deteriorate. Fast forwarding to the early 2010’s, the last couple of buildings of the hospital closed down, which led to the entire property being shuttered, and abandoned. Today, the property is overgrown, and appears to be forgotten with thorns grown everywhere, and abundawildlife. however there are a couple of security guards making rounds frequently around the property, looking for any trespassers looking to explore, or vandalize the buildings. As of now, there are no plans for this historic site, and all of the multi-century old buildings remain abandoned to this day.

note: I gave this album an alias name to protect the property from any vandalism, and out of respect for the history of the property.
